Coldest since 1985 on the way??????(and snow??)

The European, GFS, Ukmet, and Canadian all show the potential for a major southern and east coast snowstorm, ending up as a Nor’Easter for next Wednesday-Friday timeframe.  This event would be what is referred to as a “triple phaser”, where basically the Arctic, Polar and Subtropical jetstreams all combine into a powerful storm in the Gulf of Mexico, and then the storm travels up the East Coast, bringing severe weather to the areas on the southern and southeast side of the low pressure area and potentially large amounts of snow to those on the northern and northwest side.  I believe, at this time, the way the models are portraying the storm path, and the way the atmosphere is set up, with a strong low pressure vortex over SE Canada, and an Arctic frontal boundary along the eastern seaboard, we will have a good chance for a very significant snowstorm.  Following this potential storm, the coldest air we have seen in many years appears to be coming in, with potential low temperatures near zero in some areas of the south, by next Friday morning.  I will keep you updated. Stay tuned.

PS:  After this, looks like the big warmup for post Valentine’s Day!
